Green Pearl Okayti – Darjeeling Green Tea

Origin Tea

The same garden as our Darjeeling FTGFOP1, but as a green tea: at Okayti, the finest leaves are hand-rolled into small silver pearls instead of being oxidized. Pale liquor, a vegetal cup with a hint of fruit, far from the bitterness often attributed to green tea.

Composition

Green Pearl green tea, Okayti Tea Estate, Mirik valley, Darjeeling, India. Second flush harvest, leaves rolled into pearls, no additions of any kind.

Tasting Notes

Pale golden liquor. Vegetal and hazelnut nose. On the palate, clean vegetal notes carried by a hint of fruit, clean finish with no bitterness. Light body, best enjoyed plain.

Pearl Rolling

After a short withering, the finest leaves of the harvest are hand-rolled into small silver pearls, a technique that protects the aromas and slows their release: each pearl unfurls gradually in the cup.

Okayti Tea Estate

Planted in the 1870s by the British in the Mirik valley, between 1,200 and 1,900 meters of altitude, Okayti owes its name to the quality of its cup: the only okay tea, the only tea judged truly good. Its chinary bushes, direct descendants of the Chinese plants introduced in the 19th century, give the garden its signature finesse, here expressed as green tea.
