Origin Tea
Planted in the 1870s under the name Rangdoo, the garden was renamed Okayti for the exceptional quality of its cup: the only okay tea. Served at Buckingham Palace before independence, it signs here a classic muscatel FTGFOP1.
Composition
FTGFOP1 black tea, lot OKT59, Okayti Tea Estate, Mirik Valley, Darjeeling, India. Directly sourced.
Tasting
Golden, luminous liquor. The garden's signature muscatel weaves through notes of ripe fruit and plum, over a soft woodiness reminiscent of toasted nuts. A floral touch underneath, a long honey-toned finish.
Okayti Tea Estate
Planted in the 1870s by the British, the garden built its factory in 1888 in the Mirik Valley. Its tea bushes, grown between 1,200 and 1,900 meters, are mostly chinary, direct descendants of the 19th-century Chinese plants, to which the cup owes its incomparable finesse. Before Indian independence, Okayti tea was served at Buckingham Palace.
Tips
Strictly neat, like all great Darjeelings. Short infusion, 3 minutes at 90°C, to preserve the muscatel character: beyond that, astringency takes over.
